A Warrior's Journey

The Battle Begins

Logan's journey began at the age of three when he increasingly became unsteady on his feet, losing his balance several times a day.  Frequent headaches occurred and he would be visibly upset if a car ride was bumpy and his head hit the back of his car seat.  After an MRI, doctors discovered a grapefruit-sized tumor in Logan’s head.  The tumor was removed during a 12-hour surgery: it was outside the dura of the brain – which was good news – no part of the tumor came into contact with Logan’s brain.  The tumor was also free of Logan’s spinal column, although very near to the apparatus of which his right ear is comprised. 

Bravely Fighting

Logan's tumor was diagnosed as a low-grade sarcoma – malignant cancer – and he began the long and painful season of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

In September of 2010, it was discovered that Logan's cancer was re-growing at an accelerated rate. Thus began seven years of:

• 6 surgeries
• 12 weeks of proton radiation
• 2 different rounds of regular radiation
• 6 different groups of chemo 

Throughout these trying treatments, Logan kept a really good attitude. A smart and funny kid, he loved science, dinosaurs, Star Wars, Star Trek, books like Percy Jackson and the Olympians, fishing, board games, Legos and Madden Mobil Football.  He also loved sports – the New England Patriots were his top football team (watch ESPN's story of Logan's connection to Tom Brady) and the Red Sox were his favorite baseball team.  Logan played soccer on a town team and enjoyed playing basketball with his best friend, Andrew.

Weapons Laid Down

 Surrounded by his loving family on February 13, 2017, the fiercest of little warriors – knowing he gave it his all –  breathed his last breath on this earth.  Logan's courage, his voracity to live and beat the cancer invading his body, still echoes in the hearts of those he touched.  He will be remembered as a tender-hearted fighter; an endeared grandson, cousin, and nephew; the truest of friends; and the champion of his mother's, father's, and sister's hearts.
